I love the Grammys. Although the tone this year was a bit somber due to the passing of Whitney Houston, it was still a good show. The performances were great: especially the Foo Fighters, Coldplay with Rihanna and Sir Paul McCartney--and Jennifer Hudson's tribute to Whitney was so nice! She did an amazing job and I am sure there wasn't a dry eye in the audience.
Actually, I love any awards show. My mom & I love to watch them together and gawk at all the glitter. I love watching all the pre-show stuff too; where the celebrities are strutting down the red carpet for all of us to judge their chosen outfit for the evening. Sometimes I try and guess the designer...a hard and usually failed attempt. Especially this year! I was intrigued by the trend of modesty this year at the Grammys. I mean granted, it IS February. But the Grammys are in LA.... anyway, it was kind of nice to see such lovely garments prove that you don't always need a plunging neckline to be attractive. Minus Rihanna and a few others, most celebrities went with something rather conservative.
My absolute favorite look of the night was Paris Hilton's Basil Soda gown. See it here. It was SO elegant and had lovely detail. I was blown away when I saw Paris Hilton in something so classy! My second favorite look of the night was Kelly Rowland. Here is her beautiful dress. She is always so pretty! I loved the detail! My third favorite look was Carrie Underwood. She is one of my favorite's anyway. Although I think she always plays it safe on the red carpet, she always looks well put-together. Here was her gown: a gorgeous & a bit vintage long sleeve/high neckline/cut-out back gown. So lovely.
And then there are the usual celebrities that bring trashy get-ups to the party. It was no surprise to me when Nikki Minaj showed up looking like a couture red-riding hood and escorted by a pope-look-a-like. Who does that? And don't get me started on her controversial and terrible performance... take a look.
And Katy Perry never fails to look ridiculous. Although her gown was quite elegant, she went with blue hair to finish off her look. What is wrong with her? She is a pretty girl...I don't think she's that talented, but people like her... do you really have to have blue hair to be unique? Here she is.
Sasha Gradiva...who is she? and what on earth was she wearing??? look.at.this.mess. wow!!! what goes through some people's minds??
And last but not least...Fergie. Oh, Fergie. I personally think she looks a little man-like...and the middle part has GOT to go. How old is she anyway?? But at the grammys she had her hair in a simple ponytail, a nice change from her super straight locks divided in half exactly with her middle part (her hair is usually simple) and then donned an extravagantly hideous gown. Might I add, an electric orange, SEE-THROUGH gown. Check it out.
The men looked pretty spiffy. Minus the Foo Fighters....always a bit white trash with their clothing options...what do you expect though? I don't care what they wear...as long as they perform :) John Legend looked fantastic! And LL Cool J was rockin' the sweetest velour jacket & signature cap.
Oh, the Grammys. You never know what you might see. I wonder what kind of gown I would pick? aside from the all the outfits...I HATED that Adele won like everything...not sure what all the hype is about with her. But good for her--she apparently had voice surgery and this was her big comeback. The tribute to the Beach Boys was pretty fantastic--Maroon 5 rocked it! Nikki Minaj's performance was....weird. And terrible. Chris Brown's performance was also disappointing. I LOVED Rihanna's performance. She is so good!! Basically, it was a good night. Good times watching the Grammys with the madre.
SIDE NOTE:
This blog is more like a journal entry for myself. I love everything about fashion and try to keep up with it...so this is my record of this past NY fashion week. I wanted to remember some of my favorite looks; I was so impressed! So feel free to read or not-read.
It has been an exciting week in my opinion! Full of new trends and great fashion! I have been combing through the different runway shows that have gone on the past several days at NY Fashion Week (Fall 2012 Ready-To-Wear) and have pretty much been in love with most collections. It seems that I always like the Fall lines better rather than the Spring ones. I am pretty partial to the Fall time fashion anyway. If you missed it, and care to see it, I found that the NY Times website has great coverage of the different shows, sorted by designer, for your viewing pleasure. Some of my favorites were:
Alice & Olivia (very feminine with girly accents like lace, sequins & ruffles)
Jason Wu (awesome! very structured. looks like he is getting in touch with his chinese background)
Victoria Beckham (is there anything I don't love about her?? she had a very clean Fall line. She used a lot of muted colors but also threw in pops of bright blue & red. Her clothing always looks so put-together.)
Creatures of the Wind (definitely a bit weird, but so unique. I loved some of the prints used and the use of lots of different fabrics.)
DKNY (very matrix-esque. She used a lot of leather and high collar looks. Very nice though...always Donna Karan!
Carolina Herrera (so pretty! but crazy hair on the models!!)
Marc Jacobs (never fails to amaze...or surprise! lots of weird furry hats--and an even weirder set-up. He had a cartoon-like background for his runway and had his models walk the runway to a song from the Oliver soundtrack....BUT he had lots of amazing coats for Fall--he's a genius.)
Zac Posen (lots of beautiful gowns and lots of beautiful necklines)
Rag & Bone (probably my favorite show--AMAZING prints and fantastic construction! A little edgy too. Love!!)
Rachel Zoe (of course!! my second favorite. Her collections are always beautiful. Loved all the fur accents (typical!) and the well-tailored look)
I hope that if we do end up in NYC that I can attend Fashion Week! That would be a dream come true :)
